Brackets, Beads, and Boxed Lopers: The Scottish Cabinetmaking School of Colonial Richmond and Petersburg
November 18, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$10
Speaker: April Strader Bullin, Director of Museum Programs, Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts
Brackets, Beads, and Boxed Lopers discusses a group of colonial tables from Prince George, Chesterfield and Henrico counties in Virginia. These tables share style characteristics as well as defined construction techniques. This evidence helps to tie the objects to shops and more specifically to two Scottish cabinetmakers in the Richmond/Petersburg area. With this discovery, the influence of colonial Scottish cabinet makers can be seen further south in Virginia than ever before and this would constitute the first identified school of colonial furniture from the Richmond/Petersburg area as well.
