Martha Jefferson and the Virginia Campaigns

March 18, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for our annual lecture series. This virtual presentation will feature Diane Ehrenpreis, Curator of Decorative Arts, Monticello.

Diane will introduce new information regarding the Ladies of the Revolution, women in PA, MD, NJ, and in this case, Virginia, who undertook a public campaign to raise funds and distribute aid to the Virginia soldiers in 1780. Martha Jefferson organized this effort, and her participation has been misunderstood as ineffectual. New documents show that women in approximately half a dozen counties actively supported the war effort with an organized system for raising and delivering funds, but those other campaigns by Arnold, Cornwallis, and Tarleton left the project in shambles, with many of the lady donors becoming refugees of war.

This presentation will take place on Zoom.

Suggested registration donation of $10.
