Wilton House Museum seeks a Development Manager to join a museum community invigorated by a Strategic Plan calling for a site-wide reinterpretation of the museum’s landscape, historic interiors, and expansion of gallery space and visitor services. The Development Manager’s responsibilities are to cultivate relationships and increase public engagement with Wilton House Museum and achieve agreed upon fundraising goals. Working closely with the Executive Director,
and in collaboration with museum colleagues, the candidate will accomplish this by focusing on these four responsibilities.

  • People: Develop and implement the Annual Fund to renew, acquire, and upgrade annual support. Special focus on fostering existing donor relations and cultivating current audiences to give. This includes working with leadership to develop strategies for annual
    gifts from the board and NSCDA-VA membership.
  • Programs: Securing program sponsorships to forge relationships between the museum and local businesses and organizations to expand and diversify community engagement with Wilton House Museum’s programming and mission.
  • Preservation: Attain grant support for on-going preservation and related programming through the cultivation of past grantees while identifying and cultivating grant support. Responsible for the preparation, application, and management of grant proposals.
  • Participation: Take part in the creation of annual institutional advancement goals, including budgets and board reports, as well as long range fundraising planning to outline strategies for donor and prospect cultivation.

Wilton House Museum is on the National Register of Historic Places and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Wilton House Museum is owned by The National Society of The  Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia, (NSCDA-VA) a 501(c) 3 NonProfit Charitable Organization.

Requirements: a Bachelor’s Degree. The candidate should have the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, knowledge of development principles, and experience working within a non-profit organization. An interest in historic preservation and museum education is important.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with Past Perfect Database are recommended. Must be able to manage numerous projects with excellent writing and communication skills. The candidate who enjoys a collaborative work style that includes volunteers
and people of all ages is best suited for the position.
